WiRe Unveils Refreshed Board of Directors and Strategic Mission

Women in Reinsurance (WiRe), the leading professional organization dedicated to supporting and advancing women in the reinsurance industry in Bermuda, today announced a slate of new appointments to its prestigious board of directors and the introduction of an updated vision, purpose and values statement. These changes are designed to underscore the organisation’s commitment to promoting professional development, networking and diversity for members.


WiRe proudly welcomes Natasha Scotland Courcy, CEO and General Counsel of Athene Bermuda and recipient of the 2024 WiRe Woman of the Year award, as its newest board member. Joining alongside Natasha are former Event Committee members:

  • Kyra Hodsoll, Assistant Manager of Operations at Ariel Re;

  • Sylvia Taylor, Reinsurance Accountant at Martello; and

  • Marlin Ramlal, Senior Underwriter at MS Re.


Commenting on these appointments, Peta White, Chair of WiRe and President of Vantage Risk, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome these accomplished leaders to our board. Their demonstrated passion for supporting women in reinsurance will be invaluable as we pursue our new strategic direction. This expansion reflects our commitment to inclusivity and excellence, ensuring that WiRe continues to be a vibrant and supportive community.”

The new appointees join returning board members Carmel DeSilva (QBE Bermuda), Susan Smith (Ark Insurance Ltd), Julia Mather (Falcon Insurance PCC Ltd); and Maamoun Rajeh (Arch Worldwide Reinsurance Group).


Acknowledgements and transitions


WiRe expressed gratitude to Kathleen Reardon, CEO Hiscox Re & ILS, for over 15 years of continuous service, including her pivotal role as co-founder and former chair, as she transitions off the board.


Reflecting on her tenure, Kathleen stated:

“It has been an honor to help steer WiRe from its inception to the dynamic entity it is today. I am excited to continue to support the organization as a member and mentor to the next generation of leaders.”

WiRe also thanked outgoing leaders Tracey Gibbons, Head of QBE Re Bermuda, for her years of service as a member of the board of directors and Leone Charles, Assistant Underwriter at Brit Insurance, for her tireless work as outgoing Head of the Events Committee.


New vision, purpose and values statement


WiRe also proudly introduced its new vision, purpose and values statement:

  • Vision: A dynamic community of professional women elevating and supporting each other to drive innovation and excellence.

  • Purpose: Promote the professional development of women in Bermuda’s Reinsurance Industry.

  • Values:

    • Community: a deeply connected network elevating and supporting each other

    • Acceptance: working together to embrace diversity; cultivate an environment that values the unique perspectives and contributions of our members to instill a sense of belonging

    • Collaboration: foster advocacy and mutual engagement between members, allies and other networks

    • Empowerment: provide networking and educational opportunities that promote the continued professional development of women


"Our new vision and purpose statement embodies WiRe's dedication to creating more opportunities for women in reinsurance," said Peta White. "Along with our core values, this will guide all our initiatives going forward."


Carmen DeSilva added that “in alignment with the update to our vision, purpose, and values we have also taken the opportunity to restructure. We have transformed the Event Committee to Executive Committee in recognition of all the work the team does across the four pillars of WiRe which includes networking & mentoring, education & development, Media & Communications, and Treasury & Sponsorship. Each Board member will be responsible for overseeing these pillars and ensuring that our Vision Purpose and Values are the driving force behind all decisions.”
